October is Texas Wine Trail Month

Texas Wine Trail

Texas Wine Trail

There is still time to explore the Wine Trail Texas is hosting all month.  Come see for yourself why the Texas Wine Trail is causing people to call the Texas Hill Country the next Napa Valley!

Part of living greener is buying local, and there’s no better way to discern the best Texas wines than by sampling the divine juice during Texas Wine Trail month.  A $15 ticket yields the opportunity to taste over four dozen wines at 27 Hill Country wineries!  This fermented fruit of the vine is scattered throughout the beautiful Texas Hill Country, and fortunately, the tickets are good for the entire month of October.  And, Oenophiles be aware!  Many of these Texas wines have won national and international awards.

HILL COUNTRY WINERIES AND VINEYARDS

Planning which wineries to visit is almost as pleasurable as the tastings.  Okay, well, not quite, but it’s still fun.  Why not make it a weekend trip complete with a charming B&B to relax into when the tastings are done?  Choose wineries located near your favorite Hill Country destination, such as your favorite Fall festival or pumpkin patch.  Most of these wineries are family owned and provide very unique experiences in addition to swirling, smelling and swishing their wines.  Though most of the Texas wines are from varieties of grapes you’ll recognize, there are also some very unique regional wines and ports.  The tickets include discounts on wine purchases. Plan your custom designed experience from the Texas Wine Trail website.

SAMPLES TO WHET YOUR PALATE

Becker Vineyards between Stonewall and Fredericksburg has been featured on the Fine Living Channel and these family owned wines have been served at the White House.  The Beckers renovated an 1890 log cabin next to the vineyard into a bed and breakfast.  A night’s stay includes a bottle of wine and baked goods for the morning.  The vineyard’s tasting room features local art and an antique bar from the mid-1800s. In addition to the estate vineyards, you’ll see several acres of lavender and lavender products, too.

Bending Branch Winery is a family owned and operated winery near Comfort.  Bending Branch boasts of using sustainable practices and an organic focus in its vineyard.  They’ve won awards for their Petite Sirah, Picpoul Blanc, and Tannat wines.  This vineyard is located on 56 luscious acres between Boerne and Kerrville.

Singing Water Vineyard, also near Comfort, rebuilt a 100-year-old Hill Country barn into a tasting room on the banks of Bruins Creek. The name comes from the sound the water makes as it cascades over the rocks.  Singing Water wines have won awards at local and international wine competitions.  Their Texas Reserve, a blend, is a consistent winner, and Sweet Lupe, a semi-sweet Merlot, is named after the vineyard’s yellow lab.

Texas Hills Vineyard, near Johnson City and Pedernales State Park, has a winery and tasting room that is environmentally friendly.  It’s built from compacted earth on the property pushed together using a technique called “rammed earth.”  The walls of their “cave above ground” are 18 inches thick and help smooth out temperature fluctuations. Texas Hills also uses sustainable organic practices in growing their grapes.  They have a Kick Butt Cab that garners a lot of attention and patron photos.
