West Austin, Texas population to have more healthcare options with the opening of the Lakeway Regional Medical Center scheduled for Spring of 2012
Minutes west of Austin, Texas, is the suburban community of Lakeway. Lakeway is best known for its sparkling, Lake Travis community, complete with sprawling golf courses and upscale housing. It sports laid-back Hill Country living wrapping around the shores of the ever-popular lake. Lakeway’s 11,000 residents comprise a small part of the greater Austin Texas population. The Austin metro area, a five county metropolitan area including Round Rock and San Marcos, is forecast to reach over 1.8 million people by the end of 2011. It will be among the 30th largest metro areas in the United States. Lakeway is a small, but strategically located community in that greater MSA.
Upscale services and amenities abound in the west Austin area, and Lakeway is enhancing this list by opening Lakeway Regional Medical Center in spring 2012. This Medical Center with be on Ranch Road 620, just 20 minutes from downtown Austin and convenient to several communities west of Austin. The Medical Center will open a 145-bed acute care hospital with 230,000 square feet spread through eight stories of space. It will have a helipad and emergency room, along with a full-service hospital. And, this is just Phase One.
The Medical Center has plans to expand in at least three phases. The full service, Level 3 trauma hospital is the anchor to a 54-acre campus that is to have several medical office buildings, selected retail space for businesses such as pharmacies and medical supply stores, hotel and restaurant space, and a daycare. The first medical office space for physicians and other medical services is slated to open in 2012 concurrent with the hospital. The hospital will expand in phases, too, adding more beds and facilities in time.
The economic impact of the medical center complex to the Lakeway and west Austin area is tremendous. Already the construction of the facilities involves thousands of jobs. The hospital will hire staff, physicians, nurses and technicians. The support services and restaurants, hotel and retail will be even more of a boon for the area. The site will continue to expand its 54-acre campus, which employs more construction jobs. Long-term economic impact and growth due to the center will be tremendous.
Earlier this month, Lakeway Regional Medical Center (LRMC) named its first chief executive officer. The hospital continues to finish construction next to Lake Travis High School on Ranch Road 620 and is well past the halfway mark. The ceremonial “tree topping” ceremony was held near the end of March 2011, complete with a construction beam signing by Lakeway dignitaries and citizens. It’s come a long way from a plan first proposed in 2007. And, the community of Lakeway should be commended in its support for getting the HUD-backed financing that allowed the project to happen. Soon LRMC will add even more value and convenience of services for those living and playing in the beautiful Hill Country west of Austin.
